Add this to another station A tech in every meeting - January 20, 2006 (3.82MB; download) -- I am sure you have all experienced it. Some department comes up with a great project and now, only when they are ready to implement it, they come to you to figure out how to make it work. They want to know what computers to use, what software and, by the way, this has to have some custom software written that has never before been created. Once again, you as an IT worker find yourself in the unenviable position of giving these people 100 different reasons why the project is infeasible, exorbitantly expensive and perhaps even counter productive to the goals of the company. In many cases, they will accuse of you of being an obstructionist, a technology dictator and sometimes, even worse. You must be lacking in vision to not see the elegance of their plan. In reality, though, much of this conflict and strife could have been avoided, if the department had included a high-tech worker at the very beginning. Add this to another station Whole Lot of Nonsense - Show 23 - Local Community College PodCasting (13.70MB; download) -- Whole Lot of Nonsense - Show 23 - Local Community College PodCasting The pinning in the Frappr Map is slowing down, but we'll thank the new members just as vigorously. We've pushed the NPR and PBS show back so I get to play my interview with Chuck Chulvik from Raritan Valley Community College. It turns out that this local community college is going to be adding PodCasting to add to its different education delivery possibilities. We've got a promo from the Lance Anderson PodCast Experiment. Lance Anderson is the voice behind the mic on the Verge of the Fringe. Good stuff. Make sure that you check out his PodCast, and also check out the Tartan PodCast and pass on some serious props to Mark and Lance. Don't forget to check out the artist behind this show's song, Jonathan Coulton. He's an amazing artist, and is well worth your time, effort and money. You can find the tracks from Jonathan on his own site, and also in the PodSafe Music Network. Don't forget that you can get some of the great PodCaster Hockey League at our PHL store. Some key links? Alternative Teen Music PodCast Burning Sensations Comics Disembodied Voices PodCast Group The Dragon Page Garage Band New Jersey PodCasters Association Ordinary Average Guy A Simpler Way - Cult Leader Evo Terra's Herbalist Alter Ego The show's intro comes from Bubble, and is called Head Case. Our outro is a song from Steadman, called Wave Goodbye. These songs can be found on the PodSafe Music Network. All in all, 24 minutes I hope you don't want back.

Add this to another station Joichi Ito: The Future of Blogging (13.85MB; download) -- The Internet is truly becoming an open network with the rise of amateur content and open source software. In this talk, Joi Ito takes us through the growth of the internet as an open network in layers to the point where the killer app is now user generated content. Earlier, it was the little guys around the edges of the internet who created the open standards which made the web work, and today it is those same people who fuel it with their creativity. Joi also shares with us his observations of the remix culture seen on the net. [Accelerating Change audio from IT Conversations]

Add this to another station Jamais Cascio: Personal Memory Assistants (13.07MB; download) -- More and more people are using mobile phones with integral video cameras to capture events. Some of the most harrowing pictures from the London bomb attacks in July came from amateur video taken underground by passengers with camera phones. We seem to be heading towards a future where everything we experience will be captured and stored for retrieval. Perhaps only the sheer scale of the numbers of people involved will be the biggest safeguard we have against the nightmare of 'Big Brother' surveillance.
