3G vs. WiFi (9.24MB; download) -- Companies such as Google, Earthlink, and MetroFi continue to roll-out municipal WiFi networks in Philadelphia, Mountain View, and other locations, creating new possibilities for an always-connected individual and/or device. Fon hopes to bridge the gaps and provide a different type of public WiFi system through its own network of user-contributed hotspots. You could always try the local cafe for a monthly paid plan.
How is pervasive wireless high speed data changing the WiFi landscape? As EVDO Rev. A and HSDPA becomes available in more and more cities in the United States and around the world, will broadly deployed WiFi hotspots provide competitive coverage and speed to compete?
In this week's PodSession, 3G vs. WiFi, Om and I take a look at the current state of 3G wireless data technologies and WiFi rollouts in the United States. The podcast is 20 minutes in length, a 9 MB download. Selected by: Harold Gilchrist [ stations ], Fri, 21 Jul 2006 04:40:17 UTC

Making Money - Bloggercon III (38.69MB; download) -- How would you like it if, every time you got a phone call, you had to listen to an advertisement as well? Have you ever asked, How do I make money with my telephone? Or, What's the business model of my telephone? Or, What's the business model of my water cooler? My front porch? My patio? Doc Searls believes it's far more important (and interesting) to make money because of our blogs, rather than with them; just as we make money because we have phones rather than with our phones. Yochai Benkler - Participation Revolution (15.35MB; download) -- The networked economy is transforming the way we capitalize business and culture. Yochai Benkler, one of the top thinkers on commons-based approaches to managing resources, weaves together several fascinating threads to argue that decentralization and collaboration are shifting the balance of power to the people in the production of knowledge, goods and services; creating an economy where resources are not owned and outputs are shared.
